Nirmal N. Maitra, Chairman
Nirmal is an alumni of the School of Nursing and Health Studies at Georgetown University where he majored in Human Science. Nirmal was born in Boston, is ethnically Indian, and grew up in Kuwait.
Nirmal was inspired to create Heroes for Hearts upon reading articles and journals which chronicled the devastating rise of the rates of heart attacks and strokes in the world. He saw students and community members as vital populations that could dramatically increase the rate of bystander CPR. He realized that students especially are present everywhere in a community and that they could be easily equipped to be ready to teach CPR/AED and safely perform it as needed. As a Co-Founder and Board Chairman, Nirmal coordinates Heroes for Hearts events, forges strategic relationships and partnerships, and works to accomplish the vision of Heroes for Hearts. Nirmal is motivated to carry out H4H’s mission of empowering communities both in the U.S.A. and the world to be prepared to safely and efficiently perform CPR, AED, and First Aid in any situation that requires it.
In addition to being the President and Co-Founder of Heroes for Hearts, Nirmal has served as the Exeutive Director of the Social Innovation and Public Service Fund (SIPS). The SIPS Fund is a social venture fund of $1.5 million dollars which allocates grants and awards to Georgetown students and alumni for projects, companies, and nonprofits that have a social impact and serve the public good. Nirmal has also served as an ambassador to KIPCO's "From Heart to Heart" cardiovascular education campaign in Kuwait. In addition, during his time at Georgetown he was a volunteer for Georgetown University Blood Donors, served as the Middle East Chair for the International Georgetown Admissions Ambassador Program (iGAAP), and was a School of Nursing and Health Studies Ambassador. On a personal note, Nirmal is an avid Arsenal F.C. fan.
Since his time as an undergraduate, Nirmal has also co-founded Enna Health which has developed a chemotherapy symptom-tracking app to help cancer patients better and more efficiently understand and manage their symptoms. Nirmal is currently a medical student at the Georgetown University School of Medicine.
